Update User Roles & Permissions

In addition to the regular roles which come with WordPress (Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, and Subscriber), the Timely Calendar installs an extra role: “Event Contributor.”

The roles of users can be changed in the WordPress dashboard under “Users.”

To change the role, choose from the drop-down options, then select “Change” to confirm the change.

User Roles and Capabilities

Below is a summary of the capabilities and privileges of each role.

Please note that this summary only describes the capabilities as they relate to the ai1ec.  A full list of WordPress capabilities for each role can be viewed here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities

Administrator, Editor, and Author

For the Timely Calendar, these roles all have full capabilities and privileges:

  • Create and publish events
  • Change ‘Visibility’ to either ‘Public’, ‘Password Protected’, or ‘Private’.
  • Edit and delete all events
  • Add categories and tags
  • Add calendar feeds

Contributor

For the Timely Calendar, this role has no capabilities or privileges.

Subscriber

For the Timely Calendar, this role has no capabilities or privileges.

Event Contributor

This role is added as an option when you install the Timely Calendar.  The capabilities and privileges are less than an Administrator, Editor, or Author, but the user can:

  • Create events (but cannot publish them; the user can only ‘Submit for approval’).  Please note that the user also cannot change the visibility status and therefore events are assigned the default ‘Public’ visibility status.
  • Edit events which were created by this user.

Hosted Calendars

In the Timely Hosted calendars we have Event Contributor, Author, Editor and Administrator.

Event Contributor

Editor

  • Can create and edit all events
