From Tulsa, Oklahoma, TulsaKids is a media company with a very important mission. They write and publish the TulsaKids Magazine, a publication that has been serving parents and caregivers for over 30 years.

The magazine covers a wide variety of issues and subjects for children. Their goal is to be present in families’ lives from the prenatal phase through adolescence. They mainly focus on health, education and entertainment, while providing a unique community perspective.

Their website is a hub of quality content and a lot of resources for parents and caregivers. We are happy to be a part of their journey, working together to strengthen communities through fun and educational events. They are proud to be locally owned, written and published.
TulsaKids has been a Timely client since 2018. They have been enjoying all the features in our Timely Event Calendar Software for Media and Event Promoters. Approximately 7,600 events were published throughout their time with Timely.

For this case study, we reached out to Tara Rittler, who is the web and social media editor for the TulsaKids team.

CHALLENGES

Prior to using Timely, TulsaKids was using another website-based calendar, but felt it was too complex for their needs. They had specific plans for a new calendar: it needed to be simple, accessible and customizable to fit their magazine’s visual design.

Their challenge was to fit a wide variety of events, for a wide variety of people, into one organized and visual calendar. They needed a single platform to unite and announce all the resources they provide for many different families with very different needs.

Their audience needed a calendar that allowed them to navigate effortlessly and find activities that are age-appropriate for their children. The solution had to effectively showcase their many events in an intuitive, simple way.

RESULTS

With Timely Event Management Software for Media and Event Promoters, the TulsaKids Magazine found ways to organize and showcase events on their terms. Their website now has an events calendar that serves both their management needs and their audience’s accessibility needs.

“What we are most excited about now is the new event management software features that allow us to sell featured events into the calendar, and add slideshows to highlight featured events on some of our high traffic pages”, says Tara.

Timely has been helping TulsaKids Magazine to have a strong voice within their community, by providing an online experience of togetherness through access to fun and educational events. This was also true during the covid-19 pandemic when several local in-person events were canceled or postponed.

In addition, Timely Event Calendar Software simplified calendar management for the media team of TulsaKids Magazine. With more than 100 approved event submitters, they have been able to effortlessly populate their calendar with relevant local events.
