Corporate event planning is something that will be essential to you in your career. But how do you go about learning how to plan an event? Unless you take some very specific event planning courses in school (there aren’t many), odds are good that you’re going to need to be learning on the job. Fortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are ready and willing to teach you how to be a dynamite event planner. We’ve done the legwork for you to tell you exactly how to find the best corporate event planning courses online.

#1. Skillshare: “Event Planning: Where to Start” by Hanna Ashcraft

For those not familiar with Skillshare, it is an online portal where thousands of creators, on almost any topic you can think of, come together to talk about their areas of expertise. Skillshare is also great because you buy a subscription to the service for an introductory price of $29 a year and take all of the classes that you want. (There are higher rates if you want to have a Skillshare account available to your whole corporate event planning team.)

This class is short, an introductory course more than anything, but it’s a great place to start. It goes into all of the basics, such as how to set a budget, how to set a date and pick a venue, and how to get catering. It's a great beginner’s place to start. Even if you just sign up for one month to take the course, that’s only $8. Price can’t be beat.

#2. Udemy: “Successful Events: Event Planning, Marketing and Management”, by Alex Genadnik

If the first class was the beginner level, this is the be-all-end-all event planning course. Clocking it at 79 lectures equaling 5.5 hours of video with 41 downloadable resources, this Udemy course is really everything you’d ever need if you need to become an expert in all facets of corporate event planning. You’ll learn how to create events with a growing audience, how to get publicity and press coverage, how to promote your event online, how to hire staff, and even how to monetize your event.

Udemy is like Skillshare, in that it is a conglomeration of thousands of classes taught by experts. However, where Skillshare tends to target the creatives and the newcomers, Udemy is a professional resource. As such, it is more expensive at around $30 a month for individuals and more for corporate teams.

#3. QC Event School: “Corporate Event Planning Course”

This is if you really need to know the nitty gritty and are willing to pay for the top knowledge. This class comes from QC Event School, which does nothing but teach people how to put on events. These courses are for people who want to become professional event planners. Maybe this is exactly the hands-on, deep-dive course that you need to get through your corporate event planning.

Clocking in at $984, you see that this is a class for those serious about corporate event planning, but it goes into detail about product launches, corporate social events, trade shows, and promotional campaigns. This class is a certification course, meaning you will get an accredited certification at the end of it.

#4. LinkedIn: “Event Planning Foundations”

This course is run through LinkedIn’s InLearning division. It is good for learning the essentials of event planning together with other professionals. Although you can take it at your own pace. You will learn a lot of topics. For example: what makes a successful event, how to negotiate a budget, how to select a location with in-house resources, and how to manage technology.

Being through LinkedIn, it comes with both professional certifications as well as continuing education credits. Cheap by the standards of the other classes, this one comes in at just $24.99.

#5. Penn Foster “Event Planning”

Penn Foster is an online school. Their Event Planning course is designed to teach you how to be a professional corporate event planner. It is fully accredited, and you will earn a certificate. Tuition is what you’d expect of a professional course: $799. Also, unlike some of the other courses in this list that just require you to watch videos, this one does give homework and has graded projects.

If you’re looking to set yourself up for success and expect to be doing a lot of corporate event planning, this could be just the course for you.

Conclusion

There are plenty of courses you can take if you want to sharpen your skills in event planning. And the prices vary dramatically depending on how intensive and professional they are. Still, if you’re a corporate event planner, you simply must take a dive into these options.
